Logan stats

Today is Logan's one month birthday so I measured him at home. This means that he may be a bit bigger or smaller than the doctors scales, but it is close. I thought I'd post his size for his one month birthday.

Weight: 12 lbs 11 oz (12.7 lbs)
  95% weight for age
  75% weight for length
Length: 23" long
  95% length for age
Head circumference: 15.5"
  98% head size for age

My little Logan is 2 lbs more than Miles was at this age and .5" longer. He is growing so fast! It is hard to believe that my "little" baby is actually so big. We love his little chunky self!

Family update

1. Paternity leave is awesome. It has been so nice having Carl home this last week. Carl and Miles play and Miles has become daddy's little buddy. It has been great having his help all week.
2. Logan is a little chunker. He has gotten SO big already. At his 3 weeks appt., he was 11 lbs and 22" long. He is such a big baby!
3. Miles has loved playing with daddy everyday. They come up with new games all the time. The newest is building zombies and plants with his Legos. It is so funny. I'll be in the kitchen and I'll hear, "I need a chili pepper... A chili pepper.. A big dancing zombie, chili pepper, chili pepper. Boom!!"
4. I am doing really well. It is hard to believe I'm only 4 weeks postpartum. I feel better than I did months after Miles' birth.
5. Miles has started feeling so comfortable in the water. While we were at Carl's dad's swimming (and by "we" I mean Carl and Miles were swimming) Miles started wanting to swim on his own. Don't worry... He has a floaty on but he loves to jump to Carl and have Carl let him go while he kicks to Carl. This is so different from last year when he was scared to have anyone but me hold him.
6. Logan is such a sweet baby. I think he is starting to look different from Miles. When he was born he looked SO much like Miles but now he is slowly starting to grow into his own features.
7. Carl took Miles to a discovery museum this week and I managed to get so much done. I cleaned, baked, vacuumed, and watched a movie. It reminded me how much I can really get done when I don't have an almost 3 yr old asking for stuff all the time.
8. Logan has been getting one bottle a day. I pump and Carl will feed him. This is in hopes that we can go on a date soon and Logan can take a bottle with no troubles. He has been doing so well with it. The first bottle was spit mostly out, but by the third time he was a champ. He eats about 4 oz and doesn't even spit up.
9. Every time we do something with Logan or put him in some baby equipment (like the swing or play pin), Miles tells us, "I used to do that when I was a baby." He tells us this each day around 15-20 times. He likes us to be reminded that he did it first.
10. It is sooooo hot here. Like way hot. Hot like I wish my 6 weeks of recovery were over so I could swim. Hot like when Carl goes swimming I peak at him and Miles and feel so jealous. Only 2 weeks left!!

Catch-up

It has been so long since I blogged... It's not that I don't have the time, it's that I can never get on a computer without Miles deciding he should come over and press every button on the keyboard. It makes for a giant challenge that I have just not wanted to deal with. Plus Carl and I got new phones and getting photos off our phones is a GIANT pain. I am not even sure I know how to get pictures off my phone without deleting every picture and app on there. Oh well, I guess I will just have to see if I can manage... as for now, you'll have to be content with a few I've loaded on facebook :)

1. Carl and I decided, after inspiration form Pinterest, that we'd make Miles a play kitchen. I wanted something he could use to pretend cook and I almost bought him a play table to cook on... but last minute I decided I didn't have room for a big table that wasn't 100% what I wanted. I found some fun things on pinterest when I was looking for play room inspiration and asked Carl what he thought. He said he'd love to make one for Miles and that, even though he had never done anything like that, was totally willing to give it a try. Here is what we did:
We bought a used entertainment center for a wopping $15 at the goodwill

Carl painted it with primer and made a taller shelf/counter
Miles supervised :)

Carl cut holes for the sink and faucet (it was super convenient that our neighbors just got a new kitchen faucet and gave us their old one!)

Carl painted it

Cut out all the doors and made the stove burners- this is close to what the finished kitchen will look like, but Carl is finishing it while Miles and I are visiting my mom.

2. I started making felt food for Miles to play with in his kitchen. I already had some felt leftover from another project and because of a tight budget, I figured this would be the perfect way to help Miles have play food. I have been working on it on and off for a few days and have managed to make 4 eggs and 4 bacon... then I will be moving on to pancakes! Here are a few pictures:

Miles already likes to "eat" the bacon and eggs and thinks it's funny to say na na na (nom nom) and make you eat them too.

3. Carl is in the home stretch of med school. He has only 2 months left and then we are off to Vegas for residency! I am so excited. Right now, he is in another tough rotation (the last one tough one!) and has a busy schedule... the rotation he was on before had a light schedule but had 5 overnights! Needless to say, Miles and I have been spending a lot of time with my mom so Carl could sleep. We were there for one overnight and it resulted in a co-nap with Miles and Carl... it was so cute to watch them sleeping that I had to take a picture

4. Miles is doing so much more... I don't even know what to post as the new things because they aren't new anymore and I'm not sure what things are new.... he climbs everything, loves to watch either The Lorax (which he calls na-na because of a song they sing) or Lion King (which he just rars at you when he wants this one), he still loves to read and now enjoys reading the same book over and over and over again (instead of just wanting new ones), he loves outside and if he hears you say go he will go to the front door and say ba-ba (for bye-bye) over and over again until you either leave or break his heart and say no.... he loves to go places but isn't super great at being most places without having something to play with.

5. Miles LOVES the zoo and aquarium. He asks for it by making every animal noise he knows is there... he will loop the sounds- rar (lion), neigh-neigh (zebra), du (duck), he makes a breathing gorilla sound, he'll say bur-a for giraffe, and then he does the water animal noises- clicking (for shark and crab), na (for nemo), pa-pa (fish sound), and baaaa-baaaa (for bloom bloom the jelly fish noise). It is so cute... if we go to the zoo or aquarium more than once a week, he will ask for it in his sleep. He rolls over and will rarr. It is funny... he just loves animals so much. It makes me wonder if he'll be a zoologist or something.

6. We are planning a trip to Disneyland in April. Maybe we are crazy for taking a toddler under 2, but I have no expectations to do all the adult rides and just want Miles to see something different and fun. I think I'll be a fun trip and a great way to celebrate Carl graduating... plus who knows when we'll get to do another vacation?

7. I am so excited to move. I'm hoping for a house with a yard. Our yard is all rock and SO small. It isn't really a place Miles can play. When we play outside it is in the front yard only. I am so excited for Miles to have a place he can run around and play in. Plus he really needs more room inside to play too. When we visit my mom, he runs everywhere... he loves to run to the kitchen and run back into the living room... at our house, there is NO room to run at all. Our house is just getting too small for our growing family.

8. I am also looking forward to Easter. This is the first one Miles will really understand. I can't wait to dye eggs and do an egg hunt with him. I think we'll do one inside and maybe one outside too (depending on how fun it is for him). I'm looking forward to him getting an Easter basket and doing all the fun Easter stuff... I think we're going to spread it all out and do a week of fun Easter stuff :)

9. Miles has started growing more! At his 18 month check up (I know that was a whole 2 months ago!) he had gained almost 2 lbs and 2 inches since October... I think he has gotten even taller and bigger since then. He decided that the last 3 months were growing time. He finally fits into size 24 months and seems to almost be too big for them. I think by the time spring and shorts roll around he will be in the next size up. We'll see though.. he tends to not do what I think he will (like being in size 18 months for a whole year!).

As of 1/24/13 he was 33.4 in tall and 28.6 lbs!

10. I'm already starting Christmas shopping for next year :) I found a few REALLY good deals online and have already gotten 2 gifts that cost me about $3 total. I love finding good deals and am so excited to see the cool stuff I bought.

Family Update

Wow... I finally have a few moments to myself and am able to let you all know what's been going on in the Bryce family household. I was so good about doing an update every week up until Miles turned one... then we were just SO busy that blogs got put aside. Well, wondering what we were so buys with? traveling, a new one year old!, getting back into a routine at home, having visitors, cleaning, laundry, appointments, and SO much more.

1. We had Miles' one year appointment and he got 4 shots. This time was a bit different because instead of laying him down on the bed and having me hold his arms and talk to him, I had to hold him in my lap and hold his whole body. I must say that this way was a lot harder on me. I didn't like holding him while he cried and got hurt. It was easier when I just held his arms and talked sweetly into his ear while the nurses did their stuff. Miles handled it like a champ though and just cried for about 2 minutes or so after it was over.
He hasn't really grown much and was only 24 lbs 15 oz (that's only 1 lb more than he was 3 months ago!) so he is in the 75% for weight for age and 78% weight for height. He was 31 in tall which is 80% for age. His growth has slowed a bunch these last three months. In fact, he is still wearing the same size he was 6 months ago!

2. Getting home from Idaho was a bit tough. We spent only two nights at home before going to visit my mom to pick up our doggie and to have one last party for Miles. We had a blast celebrating with family and having everyone see a more grown up Miles. His last celebration was so fun and Miles still hates cake.

3. When coming home again, we had so much work to do. We had to clean a whole house, do a months worth of laundry, and get our house back in order. We had to buy so much food and clean out the fridge, freezer, and pantry. It was quite the task, but now I know what food we have and can start to plan out meals again... I also found a really cool notepad of weekly meal planning at target. It is helping a bunch!

4. Carl and I also cleaned out our garage... It was so messy and so full of furniture we don't need anymore, can you say hello garage sale! So we priced everything and we are going to have a garage sale on Saturday. Hopefully we make some good money!

5. Miles is such a little man. He does new things all the time. He says new baby words and tries to be just like us. He does things he sees us do, like putting the straw in and out of a cup (with the lid on!). He also has started mouthing words. It looks like he is mocking you when he does it and it is really funny to watch.

6. We went to church on Sunday and left him in the nursery for the first time! He did really well but the lady said he cried a bit. I think we will keep doing this each weekend and start getting him used to being away from us.

7. Miles is the little chatter box! He loves to talk and talk and ask "sss dat?"  "dat?" and he loves to know what everything is. His favorite thing is to have you "read" to him by showing him what stuff is on every page. He isn't really interested in the words on the page, but really wants to know what all the pictures are about.

8. We are busy with managing the home next door. The owners live in another state and since our managers moved, we are the new managers! This means that we have a lot more responsibilities than before. We have been so busy with cleaning and getting the home ready. The people left a BUNCH of stuff in the home and that leaves us with the responsibility of getting rid of it all. Carl went over yesterday and spent 2 hours inventorying all the stuff and it took up 6 pages! AAAA! It is so annoying that we have to deal with other people's stuff.... oh well, I guess that's what we get paid for, LOL.

9. It has been so great having Carl home. He has a few more weeks off and then we are starting his fourth year in medical school... I think this next year will be fun and hopefully won't be as busy as last year!

10. I am hoping to get more blogs done, but it might just turn into a monthly thing instead of a weekly thing... but here are some pics to help if you are craving a Miles fix!

Friday Update- on Sunday!

1. Today is Carl's birthday!
2. Miles is 45 weeks old... where does time go?
3. Miles is officially walking! He decided while we were at my mom's to just go for it and walk. He took 15 steps and then moved on from there... he is now preferring to walk over crawling.
4. Miles is back to giving kisses again. When he is feeling sweet, he just leans in with his mouth open to "kiss" you. It is so sweet!
5. Carl is officially done with his third year. He finished his last day in psych today and has two weeks off before going on to his first sub-internship.
6. Miles has a very strong will... he wants what he wants and he lets you know! My mom commented when we were there that he is so smart and she thought it was so funny that when she would touch his face, he would grab her hand and push it away because he didn't like it.
7. He also is very curious and wants to try everything. Today he was using a spoon to hit another toy to have it make a noise. It was really cool to watch. He also keeps putting things in the diaper trash and trying to throw away everything from his shoes to his shorts, toys, new diapers, wipes, and in general whatever he can find that is by his diaper bin.
8. Miles has had a few days of really cuteness. He will wake up and just let me or Carl hold him. It is so sweet. He lays his head on you and will just sit there while you pat his back and rock. He will do this for 10 minutes or so.. it is a really sweet reminder of how much he loves us and one reason we love him so much too.
9. Miles is super teething. He is growing in his bottom right tooth and so he bites everything. That includes toes, fingers, arms, legs, toys, shirts, and whatever he finds that happens to fit in his mouth. He will crawl up to you and grab your toe and bite it, hard. It is naughty, but he thinks it is so funny and will laugh if you tell him no.
10. Miles is 25.2 lbs and 31.5 in tall! He is growing so big so fast!
Happy Miles

Friday Update

1. Miles is 40 weeks old today... that means he is exactly double the age of conception.... that means that he is as old out of the womb as in... I don't know why but that makes me feel both happy and sad.
2. Miles did as well on the flight home as he did when we left. He slept the whole way :)
3. It was so much fun to see my family. Miles LOVED my dad and seems to make quick friends with any male he meets.
4. Miles went to the doctor yesterday and here's his stats for this month:
He is 29 inches tall- this means he is in the 79% length for age
He is 23 lbs 15oz- this means he is 95% weight for height, but 90% weight for age
His head is 50cm around- the 98% for his age.
5. Miles still has his soft spot on his head (which is normal... they normally don't fully close until between 10 months to 24 months) BUT that combined with his head size gets Miles an ultrasound of his skull. I guess what can happen is the fissures in his skull can close too soon and it can force his soft spot to stay open. We have to schedule an appt to see if the fissures are closed.
6. While we were at church Miles hit his chin on a windowsill and bit his top gum with his bottom teeth. It bled but looked ok. After a few days, he developed what looked like a blood blister and today it looks like it popped. If I look by where he bit, I can see a little tooth! I think when he bit his gum he made the gum thinner and made room for his top tooth to start coming down.
7.  We have friends from Germany visiting and it is so fun! I love hanging out with one of my best friends all the time and it has been so great finally meeting her husband! PLUS she is pregnant so I get to rub her belly!
8. Miles has started to eat more grownup food lately. He had his first hotdog, ham, turkey, and more things I don't remember.
9. Today after our moms group, Miles fell asleep holding his toy. It was so funny I had to take a picture!
10. Miles rode his first four-wheeler while at my dads... he took him around the yard and Miles loved it.

Friday Update

1. Miles took a step on Tuesday. He was standing at the coffee table, let go, stood there for a second, and then stepped toward me! He only made it one step and fell, and hasn't tried it since. I  think this totally counts as his first step, but Carl says he isn't so sure... Miles did manage to pick up his foot and move it forward, so does it count?
2. Miles is a little spitter. He has learned how to blow on his tongue to make a spitting sound and he does it all the time. He does this more than making talking noises.
3. Allergies are horrible this year. I am so stuffy and itchy and sneezy (is it just me or did you think those sound like dwarf names too?).
4. Miles really hasn't grown for the last few months. He is still wearing the same clothes and is only about a pound more than he was at new years. I think crawling is helping him to gain muscle and lose fat though... his face seems to look thinner than it did and I feel like he looks more grown up than before.
He weighs 24.2 lbs and is still 28.75 in tall this means he is in the 90 th percentile for weight for age and a little over 75 percentile for length for age.
5. Miles has so many bruises.. I know it's from crawling but I feel bad. He gets them on his head from bonking his head on the coffee table, but he also now has them on his legs from crawling over our baby gate in the kitchen (it has a little lip that he crawls over).
6. Miles is going through his 8 month bad sleep time. It is totally normal for babies. He is just so busy all day learning new things, so when we go to bed it is hard for him to fall asleep. It is also hard for him to stay asleep. When he starts coming out of a sleep cycle, into a lighter sleep, he wakes himself up to play. When he wakes up he rolls over and starts to crawl even before he is all the way awake. It is crazy and makes for a bunch of nursing at night so he can go back to sleep.
7. Carl stayed home on Wednesday because he caught a cold from his clinic. We really tried to keep Miles away from him so we'll see if he ends up sick.
8. Miles and I are going to fly to see my dad and family for Easter. My step mom was nice enough to buy us a plane ticket to visit for a week! It is going to be so fun because my sister Shelbie is also going to be visiting with my sweet niece! I am a bit nervous about going on a plane with Miles by myself, but it for sure beats driving for 10+ hours!
9.  Carl, Miles, and I went to the park the other day and we let Miles put his feel in the sand for the first time. He wasn't so sure of it and just kept squishing his toes around in it.
10. Miles loves playing with the doggie door. He crawls over to the back door and likes to push the door open. I am just waiting for the time when he realizes he can push stuff outside and then learns he can fit through the door himself (when that happens, the dog door will get taken out for awhile).
