Christmas plus

Christmas this year was a blast. I think it was the best Christmas so far. Miles had so much fun opening tons of gifts and playing with family. I think his favorite part was reading with Grandpa and playing with his Uncle and Aunt. It has been really fun seeing him interact with all of our family. He remembers them from Thanksgiving so he wasn't shy at all.

Miles has started doing more and more things that surprise me. My mom has a puzzle that Miles loves. He plays it all the time and now knows where all the pieces go. Even us adults have trouble finding where each piece goes, but Miles can do it so easily.

I'll look over and Miles has done something else surprising. I cut him up some sausage and put it on the table. I looked over and he had climbed up the chair, taken all the pieces, and put them on the coffee table so he could watch Elmo while eating... silly boy.

I think the only bad part of this trip has been the evening we spent in the E.R. Miles got croup for the first time and it was scary! He had been running a fever for about 4 days and started coughing about 2 days after the fever started. I kept an eye on him and gave him Advil at night. He did ok the first night, but the second night he woke up and coughed and coughed and coughed. He coughed so much that he hurt his throat and started crying. Now Miles usually has a loud cry but because of his cough his cry was barely audible. He was gasping for air and making tiny squeek cries. It was really scary. I even tried to nurse him to calm him down but he couldn't nurse because he was trying to breathe and cry. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen.

Anyway, after calming him down we went to the E.R. and got him some medicine and a breathing treatment. We were there for only about 2 hours, came home, and Miles slept really good after that. It was really sad and scary. I hope he never gets croup again! We have never taken Miles to the hospital and we were lucky that because it was Christmas Eve, not many people were there so we were able to get in and out fast. I am really grateful for the people who helped us. When we got there it seemed like Miles was 100% fine... until you made him mad and then he would cough and have trouble breathing again. The doctor was really nice and gave us some great advice and didn't make me feel like I was so stupid for bring my baby in at 1 am.

Well, it seems like that is most of what is going on. Miles is feeling better now (although it took a few days to get over his cough). Carl and I had so much fun watching all of our family open gifts we bought just for them and watching them have fun with our Miles. It is great seeing family and having Miles get to know everyone here.

Sickness

So Carl came home on Tuesday last week starting to feel yucky. We thought it might just be allergies, but nope. By Wednesday he was full on sick. He was running a fever, tired, achy, and had a head cold that was like allergies but 100 times worse. Needless to say, he stayed home from school while I watched Miles and brought him food and water, checking on him a few times a day to make sure he didn't need anything.

The week finishes up and I think we are out of the clear because it's Saturday morning and neither Miles nor I are sick! Yeah!!!

BUT THEN, Miles starts acting funny and is super cranky and wants nothing but to be held. I tell Carl that I think Miles caught your cold, but he says he thinks Miles is just cranky. Sunday approaches and sure enough, Miles runs a fever all day long (not a big one and we controlled it with meds). Our weekend was full of cranky, sick baby and yucky weather.

Sunday was also full of me wondering why my allergies were going out of control. You'd think I would realize that it isn't allergies after seeing Carl wonder the same thing a few days ago, but no.. I still think it is just allergies and continue my day with cranky baby and massive sneezing, throat soreness (due to drainage... sorry if you didn't want to know that), and all that fun allergy greatness. Then, I wake up at 12:30 am and realize that my nose is watering so much and I now am so cold that even Miles can't warm me... oh no. I must be sick too.

It is now 5 in the morning and I am up because the thought of laying down and having to breathe through my mouth while my throat is so sore is repulsive. I am letting my sweet boys sleep and I am in the living room wondering if and hoping Carl can take the day off to help me with Miles since I really don't feel well (although i doubt he can afford to take a day when this week is busy for him.)

Friday update

11 weeks!
1. Miles now has super great hand control. He grabs his binky and pulls it out all the time
2. He had/has his first cold.
3. He wakes up all stuffy and wet sounding.
4. He now has wants, not just needs.
5. Carl finally has a whole weekend off instead of just one day.
6. We took miles to the state fair last weekend and he did really good.
7. Miles more has a yell cry. It if super annoying. He does it when you are doing something he doesn't want, like laying him in your arms when he doesn't want to sleep.
8. Carl and I are going on a date tonight for the first time since miles was born..... And yes, miles is going too.
9. I still find myself getting used to my not pregnant body... This morning in the shower, I thought it was weird that I was not overheating and had to remind myself that only happened when I was pregnant.
10. I did this whole blog on my phone :) that's why there are no pics attached... Sorry guys.

First cold

My poor little guy has officially gotten his first cold. Thankfully it is only a head cold, so he is congested and feels yucky but there isn't any tummy issues. He woke up at 3am with the worst sounding cough. It was so wet sounding and it was followed by a few sneezes and a stuffy nose. He nursed and went back to sleep. He then woke up at 8am, stayed awake for an hour and fell back asleep. He slept most of the day, only staying awake long enough to nurse and then sleep.. with the exception of twice he stayed up for a bit. I think he was only awake for maybe 6 hours all day long.

He really was such a trooper and slept so well last night (although he did wake up again at 3 with that horrible cough and stuffy nose). I videoed his yucky sounding breathing, but I don't think you really want to hear it. BUT... here are some pictures I took yesterday
one of his brief awake moments

this was what I saw most of yesterday... a sweet sleeping baby :)

I hope he feels better soon
